Yes. The World Dog Show is an international event of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and is open to dogs of recognized breeds in accordance with the current show regulations. Austrian law does not ban individual dog breeds, but specific requirements sometimes apply to dog-specific characteristics.

Yes. There are no guidelines that apply sweepingly to a dog breed. The Animal Welfare Act thinks from the perspective of the individual animal.

No dog breeds are prohibited.

Every dog will be checked by a veterinarian before entering the exhibition grounds. The ÖKV advocates for healthy, well-tempered dogs and responsible dog breeding. When assessing dogs a distinction must be made between breed-specific traits and actual health impairments. Health-related issues can only be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The same exhibition and legal regulations apply to all dogs. What is decisive is not individual characteristics or belonging to a certain dog breed, but the applicable legal provisions and the individual assessment (symptomatology) of the dog.

The docking/cropping of tails and ears as well as the removal of claws or teeth, is strictly prohibited by the Austrian Animal Welfare Act. The import, purchase, brokering and passing on of docked dogs are also strictly prohibited in Austria. Dogs with shortened whiskers may only be exhibited if it can be proven (veterinary certificate) that the shortening of the whiskers was not carried out for purely commercial or aesthetic reasons. Exhibiting dogs with completely missing whiskers remains prohibited.

The World Dog Show 2027 is taking place in Austria. Therefore, the legal provisions applicable in Austria including the Austrian Animal Welfare Act naturally apply to the event. The ÖKV organizes the event within the framework of these legal requirements and works closely with the responsible authorities.

The World Dog Show takes place in the province of Lower Austria. Therefore, the provisions of the Lower Austrian Dog Keeping Act apply outside the exhibition grounds. Dog owners are obliged to walk their dogs in such a way that humans and animals are neither endangered nor unreasonably bothered.

The equipment used must be designed in such a way that no avoidable pain, suffering, damage, or severe fear is inflicted on the dog. Prong collars, collars with shocks (e-choke), collars without a pull stop, choke, coral and chemical collars are strictly prohibited. Also prohibited are technical devices, aids, or mechanisms aimed at influencing the animal through harshness or punitive stimuli.
